What’s the Kennel Club Good Citizen award scheme all about?
The Bronze course is a great follow on from our youngsters courses, and for people with older, perhaps rescued dogs, to learn important life skills in order that they become really enjoyable family pets. Our dogs understanding of what is appropriate (e.g. coming back when called, walking on a loose lead) is entirely due to what we teach, but sometimes it’s difficult to convey our house rules effectively.
We’ll teach you to communicate with your dog better so that they can learn what you want, and reward them for so well for doing it that it becomes what they want too! We run the Kennel Club’s Good Citizen scheme, and during the course we prepare you for a test (optional!) that is included in the price of the course at the end of the block and covers the following:
- Cleanliness & Identification
- Collar & Lead
- Walk on Lead
- Control at Door/ Gate
- Controlled Walk Amongst People & Dogs
- Stay on Lead for One Minute
- Examination of the Dog
- Return to Handler
- Responsibility & Care
When you book your Bronze training course you will receive an email with links to downloadable PDF files which will give you information about what to bring with you to your first lesson, including treats that we recommend. When you arrive at your first class you’ll receive a welcome pack containing useful dog related information and products or services that we recommend, plus a clicker to kick start your training skills.
Our dog training team pride ourselves on keeping up-to-date with modern, positive, and most importantly, effective dog training methods. Our lessons are well-organised, fun and informative with plenty of opportunities to ask questions. The classes are designed to show you that essentially training should be fun for both you and your dog, because that way you are more likely to do more of it!
